the teaching ideas of unit 2
good morning, everyone. today i’m very glad to give my teaching ideas. i think the aims of english teaching are to develop the pupils’ interest in english and cultivate their abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
contents guide
today i’m going to talk about part b and part c of unit 2, oxford primary english, book six. this lesson includes two parts: look, read and learn ;ask and answer. in part b, it provides a calendar for ss to learn the new words. in part c, it mainly deals with the dialogues about “ when’s your birthday?”“what would you like as a birthday present?”and its answers.
teaching aims
to enable ss to listen, speak, read and write the words: january, february, march, april, may, june, july, august, september, october, november, december.
1.to lead ss to make dialogues with their partners. make sure that ss can use these sentences in real situations.
2.to develop ss’ abilities of listening and speaking.
3.to train ss’ ability of working in groups.
4.to cultivate ss’ abilities of communication and their innovation.
key points
1.to help ss ask and answer the questions: “when’s your birthday?” “what would you like as a birthday present?”
2.to enable ss to study in groups and cooperate with each other.
3.to develop ss’ interest in english.
difficult points
1.to help ss ask and answer the questions: “when’s your birthday?” “what would you like as a birthday present?” and make sure they can express the date correctly.
2.to finish the survey successfully.
teaching theories and methods to deal with this lesson
as task-based learning theory is widely applied in the field of english teaching, it has become the principle for most teachers when planning their lessons. so i will let ss learn in real situations, finish a task by making a survey to help ss get a better understanding of the key structure of the dialogue.
in class, i’ll try to use encouraging and polite remarks such as “any volunteers?” “wonderful” “well done” “good job” “thank you” and so on.. i’ll get the students to have a competition to develop their quick response. i’ll make full use of modern equipment so as to make the class more lively and interesting.
teaching steps
  step one: warming up
1.free talk between teacher and ss
e.g. t: what day is it today?
   s: it’s wednesday.
   t: what’s the weather like today?
   s: it’s sunny.
2.say a rhyme “today is my birthday
purpose: it is important to form an english learning surrounding and provide situations to review learned knowledge for the next step.12
  step two: presentation
1. present the patterns “when’s your birthday?” “what would you like as a birthday present?”
2. make dialogues with the partners.
purpose: to present the key structure one by one is much easier for ss to learn and grasp the meanings.
3.set a situation to help ss understand it.
step three: practice
do a survey: divide the whole class into four groups. and each group should finish the printed form by asking and answering the question: “when’s your birthday?” then find out which group finishes faster.
purpose: task-based learning method is used here to develop ss’ ability of communication and also their ability of co-operation will be well trained.
step four: consolidation
  ask ss to write the dialogues down and pay attention to the spelling.
step five: homework
1. read the dialogues of part c and make a new dialogue according to the text.
2. do the exercise of the exercise book.
