 good morning, everyone. i’m so glad to sit here and talk about my teaching design of pep book8 unit 2 part b let’s talk & pair work.
      firstly, i will talk something about the material analysis. the title of this unit is “what’s the matter, mike?”. it is the fourth lesson of this unit. it is related to the daily life.
      the teaching aims can be divided into 3 parts: the knowledge aims, the ability aims and the emotional aims. the knowledge aims are to master 4-skilled sentences: how are you, liu yun? you look so happy. how are you , sarah? you look so sad today. help ss to understand the meaning of this dialogue and try to do pair work with partners. the ability aim is to improve ss’ abilities, such as the listening ability, the speaking ability, etc. the emotional aim is to establish ss’ awareness of learning english.
      the important aims are to master 4-skilled sentences: how are you, liu yun? you look so happy. how are you , sarah? you look so sad today.
      the difficult aim is to understand the meaning of “i failed the math test. i’m sorry to hear that.”, encourage ss to express their emotion with the sentence “you look so …” in the real situation.
      i’m going to use the task based learning to teach the lesson, and i want to use cai and some word cards as the teaching aids.
      now let me talk sth. about the teaching produces.
      step1.pre-task preparation
      before this lesson, i will have an oral practice with ss. i will introduce myself firstly, then i’ll ask ss “what’s your name? i’m so happy today. are you happy? how are you today? who’s your good friend? do you want to be my friend?” i will answer with the sentences “i’m glad to hear that./i’m sorry to hear that.” from this step, ss will have the impression of the sentences “i’m glad to hear that./i’m sorry to hear that.”.
 step2. while-task procedure
      1.t shows pictures of liu yun and sarah, guide ss to say “her name is liu yun/sarah.”. from the story of them, guide ss to master “how are you?” and try to express “i’m glad/sorry to hear that.” then t shows some sentences such as “i’m so excited today./i have a fever.”, guide ss to answer with “ i’m glad/sorry to hear that.”. from this step, ss will master the sentence “how are you?” and how to express their emotion with “ i’m glad/sorry to hear that.”.
      2.from the game, guide ss to review the words “happy”, “sad”, “excited”, “tired”, “bored”, “angry”, and guide ss to say “you look so …”.then guide ss to show different faces and ask “how do i feel?”. then guide ss to have a chant, t will use different ways to practise.. from this step, ss will master how to describe people’s emotion.12
      3.from liu yun and sarah’s math test, guide ss to know the meaning of “ passed the math test”and “failed the math test” and try to discuss the emotion of them after the test. guide ss to give some suggestions to sarah, help her pass the math test. t shows a plane ticket, guide ss to learn “ going on a big trip”. t shows different places, guide ss to choose their favourite places and express “i am going to …i am going on a big/small trip.” from this step, ss will master the phrases “going on a big trip”, “passed/failed the math test.”
      4.in this step, ss will play a game. they can write their emotion and reasons on the paper, and draw different mouths on the picture. ss can show the pictures and practise in pairs: look at my picture, how do i feel? you look so.. yes, because i … from this step, ss can use the main sentences in this lesson in the real situation.
      5.guide ss to listen to the tape and discuss 4 questions: how does liu yun feel? why? how does sarah feel? why? guide ss to follow the tape and act the dialogue in pairs. after this step, ss can master the dialogue and try to act it.
      step3 post-task activities
      there is a task for ss, guide ss to help unhappy ss and make friends with them. firstly, ss should master how to communicate with unhappy ss , they can say “what’s your name?/how are you? you look so…”then ss will read the information about unhappy ss and try to give them some suggestions to help them. ss can make a new dialogue in 4-students group. after the task, ss will share a sentence “friendship is the source of happiness.”. from this step, ss can use the main sentences in the real situation, and it can help ss improve their abilities.
