teaching contents: this is the second period of this unit. at the first unit let the students know the names of the holidays and the popular activities people do on different holidays. at this period, try to let them talk about their favourite holidays and know the traditions of the holidays. teach the phrases of the new activities and some irregular forms of the verbs in the past types.
analysis of the text: in this text they students will know the backgrounds of the holidays not only the holidays themselves but also the traditions of the holidays. let the students be interested in the holidays and love english better. know the knowledge of the holidays. let the students master the drills: when’s …? it’s in… what do people usually do at…? they…did you…last…? yes, i did. no, i didn’t. what’s your favourite holiday? my favourite holiday is…
teaching aims and demands:
1. to master the drills: what’s your favourite holiday? my favourite holiday is…what did you do last…?
2.know the traditions of the holidays in the text well.
3.be interested in the holidays.
main points: the useful phrases of the holidays: go to parties, eat moon cakes, visit their relatives and friends, have a big lunch, play with lanterns. four skills of the words: christmas, had, went.
difficult points:
1. to talk about one’s favourite holidays fluently.
2. the irregular forms of the verbs in the past types, such as: had went.
logos of teaching: interest is the best teacher. well begun is half done. before class let the students try to song the song of holidays that i designed by myself, they can be interested in the lesson at the very beginning. at the english lesson we should train the students listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. let them know the background of the foreign countries.
ideas of teaching: to review the knowledge and elicit the new ones. let the students know the principles of the verbs in the past type and point out more new ones. in this way they can know the grammar better. the exercises of this lesson can not only check if they can master well or not, but also the reading materials of the traditions of the holidays.
teaching aids: multimedia, words cards and red packets.
teaching steps:
step 1: revision
1. sing a song of the holidays before class. let the students review the holidays well. use the tune of two little tigers. the teacher designs the song like this:
spring festival, spring festival, national day and may day. dragon boat festival, dragon boat festival, children’s day, new year’s day.//mid-autumn festival, mid-autumn festival, halloween, halloween. i like easter, i like easter. how about you? how about you?1234
2. listen to a song: we wish you a merry christmas. then ask questions about the song: “what’s the song about? is it about children’s day?”
step 2: presentation
1. the song is about christmas and new year’s day. they are holidays. show unit 6 holidays on the board.
2. the song is about christmas. read and learn the word: christmas. the students of different teams read. boys and girls have a match then read the word: christmas. spell the word. the whole class spell from the low voice to the high voice.
3. to elicit favourite: teacher says: i like children’s day. i like new year’s day. i like christmas very much. i like christmas best. christmas is my favourite holiday. read the phonetic and the chinese meaning of favourite. talk about favourite things: favourite colour, favourite animal, favourite fruit.
4. let the students talk about their favourite holidays. when the children talk about the holidays. show the pictures and the ppt. with when is it? what do people usually do? then elicit the new phrases. read and know the meanings. to teach go to parties, eat moon cakes, play with lanterns, have a big lunch, visit relatives and friends.
5. how many moon cakes can you eat? to let them love our chinese traditional food.
6. my uncle is my relative. who is your relative? make examples of the word: relative. know the meaning well.
7. tell the students: my favourite western holiday is christmas. my favourite chinese holiday is spring festival. i usually….at spring festival. say four phrases together and quickly. last spring festival. i had a big lunch. to elicit: have /has-had. i had a big lunch last spring festival. i had dumplings last spring festival. what did you have last spring festival? say i had…
8. teacher tells them: i went to parties last new year’s day. last spring festival i went to dalian. to elicit went. where did you go last spring festival? i went to…
9. what’s ben and yang ling’s favourite holiday? watch the video and say.
step 3: drill and practice
1. what’s your favourite holiday? ask and answer with one of the students then try to let 3 groups act the dialogues. then boys ask and girls answer according to the forms of the holidays.
2. review the phrases on the blackboard then do exercise one. fill in the blanks with the phrases.
3. show the verbs in the past types. let the students try to read quickly then tell the principles.
4. read some special ones of the verbs in the past tpyes too. try to read and learn. the teacher reads the verbs the students stand up and read the past types. example: the teacher reads: go. the students stand up and say: went.1234
5. do exercise2.
6. give an example and then let the students try to say the drills with the pictures and the time. example: i went to parties last new year’s day.
7. watch the video and talk about the children’s favourite holidays.
step 4: consolidation
do some exercises according to the text. each exercise let the students do at different time.

look at the phrases and the drills on the board. when we talk about the favourite holiday we should say: my favourite holiday is… when is it? what do people usually do…? what did you do last…? these activities people often do. they are: go to parties, eat moon cakes, play with lanterns, have a big lunch and visit relatives and friends. what holidays do people go to parties? new year’s day…. only mid- autumn festival people eat moon cakes.
3. homework:
1.listen to the tape and read unit 6 a three times and try to recite page 47.
