a taste of travellingsubject:  places of interestteaching aims:1. to introduce three different ways of description: using adjectives, numbers and comparison2. to help describe several places of interest in china with the above ways 3. to stir strong love for our country and her natural beautyemphasis:different ways of describing teaching method:  task-based learningmedia: multi-media teaching equipment; tape recorder; blackboardteaching procedures: i.                     lead-ini.                     the students enjoy a song and use adjectives to describe their feelings towards the song. the purpose is to help get rid of nervousness and focus on the classroom activities. meanwhile, it might be more effective if we start the topic from something they really like.ii.                   the students make sentences and combine numbers with adjectives.the purpose is to introduce a new way of description (numbers), and tell that numbers can help describe more accurately.iii.                  the students describe the map of china, swfc…by comparing them to something else.the purpose is to help learn that simile/comparison can is a good way to dscribe the world in a more lively and vivid way. ii.    presentation i.                     the shanghai museum and the li riverthe students scan over the text and tell the use of adjs. and comparison.ii.                   the potala palacethe students listen to the tape in order to catch the important numbers. iii.                  the great wallthe students read the text aloud and describe the great wall in three different ways.iii.   practice     the teacher shows a sample of dialogue and explains the requirements as well.     the students do the pair work in one minute and then exchange turns.     three pairs of students are supposed to give presentations to the whole class.12iv.    homework i.  memorize the important words and phrases.              ii.  listen to the tape and read the text aloud.iii. write a composition in about 80 words to describe the beijing national stadium with three different ways learnt in the classroom.12
