the curse of mummy
●teaching contents: reading——the curse of the mummy
●teaching objectives:
1. enable the students to have a good understanding of the content.
2. provide chances for students to increase their knowledge of history.
3. introduce to them the skills related to predicting information.
4. provide the students the chance to introduce a person.
5. develop the students’ desire for exploring, the qualities of courage, cooperation, confidence and so on.

1. skimming, and careful reading.
2. asking-and-answering activity to check students’ understanding of the content.

4. group discussion.
●teaching aids: powerpoint presentation.
●teaching procedures:

1. play the song my heart will go on to arouse student’s interest to learn this passage.
what does this song remind you of ? what happened to titanic? another explanation for its sinking is because of the curse of mummy which was taken on the ship by a businessman.
2. explain the meaning of curse
curse is a word that has a magic power to make sth. bad happen. for example: if someone hates you, he will say you won’t pass the examination tomorrow. that is a curse. do you think it really works?
reading comprehension
1. prediction
today we’ll learn the special curse, the curse of the mummy.
look at the title, can you guess what the article is about?
what more information can we get from the first paragraph?
2 introduction of carter.
read paragraph 1 to know the main idea.
howard carter ,an explorer, discovering many amazing things
predict what might be mentioned in the following passage.
for example , his interest, discovery, and family and so on.
3. skimming
go through the whole article to see the prediction is right or wrong and answer the following question.
1.what was the name of the egyptian king whose tomb carter found?
2.what happened to some of carter’s team members after the tomb was opened?12
4 careful reading
read paragraph 2 to introduce carter according to words in the diagram.

5 playing video
carter was at the gate of the tomb. let’s following him to get into it. after students finish watching , ask questions: what are there in the tomb? what would you do if you see these treasures? what did they do according to paragraph 3? is it right to empty other’s tomb of everything? were they lucky although they became rich?
6 reading paragraphs 4 and 5
read it and fill in the blanks and pay attention to the right form.
7 listening to the tape
discussion: why did these people die strangely? ( for example : they died because of the coincidence and explain the meaning of coincidence: what a coincidence , i am wearing the same coat as you. )
