第一步 作业检查

检查学生的完成情况,帮助学生分析出现的问题。

第二步 阅读训练(一)“heroic teenager receives award”

1. before reading, ask students what they will do when they find someone is badly hurt by a robber in the street. and list their answers on the blackboard.

2. tell students that the reading passage is in the form of a newspaper article, people can get a quick idea just from reading the the headline and the first paragraph.the headline gives readers a clue about the content and the first paragraph gives information that answers the questions who? when? where? what? why? and how?

ask students to read the headline and the first paragraph to find the main information:

who? (teenager john janson)

what? (honored at the lifesaver awards)

when? (last night)

why? (carrying out first aid on a neighbour after a knife attack)

3. ask students to read the whole passage and do ex1 on page39.

4. what do you think of john"s actions?

brave, heroic, courageous, helpful, unselfish, fearless, confident, quick-thinking)

5. what should we do after reading the story? is it necessary for us to attend a first aid course?

6. language points:

1) john was presented with his award at a ceremony which recognised the bravery of ten people who had saved the life of another. 在典礼上,约翰被授予奖品。该典礼是为了表彰挽救他人生命的十个人的英勇行为的。

present 动词,赠给。例如:

the mayor presented the prizes in person. 市长亲自颁奖。

动词 present 常用句式

(1)present + 名词 + with + 名词,例如:

when she left the company, the director presented her with a set of golf clubs. 她离开这家公司时,董事赠给予她一套高尔夫球杆。

(2)present + 名词 + to + 名词,例如:

he present a silver cup to the winner. 他把银杯颁给了获胜者。

2) there is no doubt that john"s quick thinking and the first aid skills that he learned at school saved ms slade"s life. 毫无疑问,约翰敏捷的思维和在学校所学的急救技能救了斯赖德女士的命。

doubt 名词,意思是“怀疑”、“疑惑”、“疑问”,例如:

i have no doubt at all who did it. 这事是谁干的,我心理有数。

用法点拨

doubt 后接 whether;no doubt 后接 that。例如:

there is some doubt whether john will come. 约翰是否会来很难说。

there is no doubt that the plan will succeed. 毫无疑问,这计划一定会实现。

the reading passage is in the form of a pamphlet with information presented under headings and in point form. students can practice the reading skills they have used in learning the text.

1. read the title and the headings and answer the following three questions. 12

1) how is the information organized?

the information is organized according to particular rooms and also to one cause of accidents-fire.

2) what is the purpose of the pamphlet?

to tell people how to keep a safe home and how to prevent accidents in the home.

3) what is the function of the pictures?

to illustrate and emphasise some points in the pamphlet.

2. ask students to read the whole text, underline the sentences with the words listed above the text and then discuss the meaning of them.

3. ask students to make a list of dos and don"ts according to the text.

复习本单元学习的内容。
