Step 1 Revision

1        Revise making simple telephone calls.     2 Check the homework.

Step 2 Pre-reading SB Page 17, Part 1. Read over the questions with the class. Now have the students work in pairs to discuss the questions. Ask several students to share their answers with the class.

Step 3 Presentation Ask the students about the telephone dialogue in Lesson 13. What did Mr Green want to talk to the headmaster about? Now have the students look at the picture at the bottom of Page 17. Present some of the new words by talking about Jim"s train ride like this: Jim is going to Sichuan Province on the train. He is having an enjoyable time. His trip is not rushed. The train is very lively because some people are playing cards, some are reading magazines and some just talking. The train is very comfortable because it"s easy to move around in. On the train Jim can also look outside at the beautiful scenery. As you"re speaking, write down the words province, enjoyable, rush, lively, magazine, comfortable and scenery. Help the students to guess their meaning.

Step 4 Reading SB Page 17, Part 2, Speech Cassette Lesson 14. Have the students scan the passage for the answer to the following question. Ask What did Jim think the train was like?  Play the tape and have the students listen and repeat.

Step 5 Workbook Wb Lesson 14, Exx. 2 and 3. Both exercises can be done together as a class.  Homework Finish off the Wb exercises.
